Agile Echigo mountain dweller who shoulders the traveler's burden in exchange for a warm meal and fire.
A yokai from the folklore of Uonuma in Echigo Province. Tall and agile, it resembles a monkey but is not one, with red hair and gray body fur. On mountain paths, it will carry travelers' luggage in exchange for a boxed meal. It is also known to help people in nearby villages and sometimes comes to warm itself by a bonfire.
