A gigantic yokai whose legends are found throughout Japan. It is said to be so enormous that it can move mountains, and the footprints it leaves behind become lakes. As a result, its appearance and interpretation vary greatly from region to region. Its origins are believed to trace back to writings from the Nara period about 1,300 years ago, although its true beginnings remain uncertain.
