Mysterious floorboard voice of Shinjō Village that claimed only to be a sweet rice cake, filling the house with rumor.
A curious yokai said to have appeared at a farmhouse in Shinjō Village, Fukui Prefecture, now part of Sabae City. A voice could be heard from beneath the floor, but whenever anyone looked, there was nothing to be seen. When asked, "Are you a tanuki?" or "Are you a fox?" it replied that it was neither. Finally, when someone asked, "Are you a botamochi rice cake?" it answered yes. Before long, the whole village was buzzing with rumors about this strange yokai.
