The Most Iconic Combo in Magic History
Every Magic player has heard of Channel Fireball, the legendary combo that shaped the early days of MTG. It’s so iconic that an entire Magic website was named after it.
Back in the 3rd Edition Revised era, this was one of the first true “combos” many players ever encountered. Neither Channel nor Fireball were rare, making them widely accessible, and yet, they packed a devastating punch.
While turn-one kills are much more common in today’s game, back then, assembling a game-winning play right out of the gate was nearly unheard of. Channel Fireball stood out as one of the only ways to do it using just cards from the original Alpha/Beta/Unlimited sets—aside from chaining ridiculous power cards like Ancestral Recall, Black Lotus, Timetwister, and Regrowth.
A true piece of Magic history, this combo remains a defining moment in the game’s legacy. Did you ever pull it off? Let us know your best Channel Fireball stories.
