Black Bolt and White Flare mirror Japan’s lineup

For the first time in Pokémon TCG history, the international release of a major set will mirror the Japanese model and it’s happening with Black Bolt and White Flare.

Together, these two sets will spotlight all 156 Pokémon originally discovered in the Unova region, and each Pokémon will receive a dedicated Illustration Rare or Special Illustration Rare. This unified presentation is a big step toward tighter alignment between the Japanese and global TCG releases, a move that could redefine how future expansions roll out.

Set for release on July 18th, 2025, both Black Bolt and White Flare will be legal for tournament play on launch day. But unlike standard sets, these are special releases meaning no prerelease events or individual booster packs. Expect Elite Trainer Boxes, Booster Bundles, tins, and collections instead.

Each set will include:

  • Over 170 cards
  • More than 65 Illustration Rares
  • More than 5 Special Illustration Rares
  • Over 5 Pokémon ex

This Unova-focused lineup keeps the spotlight strictly on Gen V. If you’re a fan of the region or a collector chasing high-value Illustration Rares, this release will be one to watch closely.
